2-year-old Houston steakhouse to expand to Fort Worth

Houston Business Journal – by Jack Witthaus – B&B Butchers & Restaurant, a two-story steakhouse on Washington Avenue, is planning its first expansion.

Owner Benjamin Berg expects to open its Fort Worth location in 2017, according to a release. Berg, a former general manager of Smith & Wollensky, opened the first B&B at 1814 Washington Ave. in May 2015.

“I wasn’t looking to expand when I was approached about opening in Fort Worth, but it made perfect sense,” Berg said in the release. “My slaughterhouse is in Fort Worth, and I’ve fallen in love with the quintessentially Texas city and its people, who remind me a lot of Houstonians with their love for philanthropy, art, food and all things Texas.”

The new space will include a 7,400-square-foot downstairs dining room and butcher shop, a 2,500-square-foot mezzanine and a 1,500-square-foot partially covered patio. The steakhouse also will be open for private events.

Berg’s restaurant is moving into The Shops at Clearfork in Fort Worth, which was developed in partnership by Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group Inc. (NYSE: SPG) and Fort Worth-based Cassco Development Co.

B&B has received numerous awards since it has opened in Houston, including the “Diner’s Choice Award” by OpenTable in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and the “Top 100 Steakhouses in America” nod by OpenTable last year. The restaurant was one of the top-spots in Houston during the 2017 Super Bowl, according to statewide tax receipts.

Berg, a Houston philanthropist, has also donated more than $100,000 to the Houston Food Bank through Houston Restaurant Weeks, according to the release. B&B was the No. 4 restaurant for donations during the 2015 event, the steakhouse’s first year of operation, and the No. 1 restaurant last year.

Last summer, Berg spoke with the Houston Business Journal about how B&B found success so quickly in a city loaded with high-profile steakhouses.
